Carol E. Macpherson Memorial Scholarship

Created in 1976 in memory of Carol by her family, the Carol E. Macpherson Scholarship has assisted over 900 “non-traditional” women at the University of Minnesota. The Carol E. Macpherson scholarship is designated for women who are 28 or older, have had a 5-year or longer break in their post-secondary education, have demonstrated financial need, have been admitted to the University of Minnesota, are attending at least half-time, and are in good academic standing.

Alumnae Society Scholarship Fund (Fund #2243)

The Alumnae Society Scholarship Fund and The Carol E. Macpherson Memorial Scholarship have the same qualifications, use the same application, and are awarded jointly. For historical reasons, both scholarships have remained in tact.

Gifts to the Alumnae Society Scholarship Fund are accepted by the University of Minnesota Foundation. Use the Foundations’ link. In Step 2 where it says “Special instructions for your gift,” enter Fund # 2243 so that your gift goes directly to the Alumnae Society Scholarship Fund.

The Carol E. Macpherson Memorial Scholarship

The Carol E. Macpherson Memorial Scholarship memorializes Carol’s undying concern for fairness, for providing opportunities for women to find new paths, for the value of a thinking mind to ask difficult questions, and for respecting the nurturing roles women continue to play even as they take on various new responsibilities in their families and communities. Carol would be pleased to learn of the extraordinary accomplishments of Macpherson scholarship seekers and would applaud the adversities they overcome to pursue education and a better life.
