The Women's Center and the Women's Student Activist Collective would like to invite students, staff, and faculty of all ages and genders to come together and knit (and crochet) for a cause.
Purpose: 1) To provide a relaxed atmosphere for University of Minnesota students, staff, and faculty of all ages to gather and knit; and 2) to make and donate hand-knit wonders to local community members in need. Bufanda is the Spanish word for "scarf," and Yolanda is any person that finds warmth in creating something from nothing, and then donating it for a cause--for example, giving women, men, and children scarves, hats, and gloves for those bone-chilling ZERO degree days. The goal for the end of the year is for each knitter to donate at least one scarf for the Tubman Family Alliance, a nonprofit organization in Minneapolis that is dedicated to preparing women and families to achieve safe, productive and healthier lives.
If you have your own yarn and needles, please bring them. If not, we have a limited supply to share. If you don't know how to knit, don't worry, we will teach you!
If you cannot attend the sessions, but would like to donate knitted or crocheted items to Tubman Family Alliance, or to donate needles or yarn to the Bufandas group, please contact us at women@umn.edu.
/All Minneapolis campus sessions take place from 12:00-1:00 p.m. in 202 Coffman Memorial Union, unless otherwise noted/
For those who can't make it to Minneapolis sessions, there is there is another knitting/crocheting group that meets every Tuesday, from 12:00-1:00 p.m. in 278 McNeal Hall, St. Paul Campus. It is also open to all ages, genders, students, faculty and staff.
