Women Student Travel Grants

PLEASE NOTE: The Women's Center regrets that its Women Student Travel Grant initiative is being temporarily discontinued due to budget challenges, as of July 1, 2009.

Purpose

The Women's Center Student travel grants are intended to help University of Minnesota, Twin Cities undergraduate and graduate students attend local, regional, national and international conferences for personal, academic, and professional development.

Sponsor

The Women's Center and the Office of the Vice President and Vice Provost for Equity and Diversity.

Award Amount

Awards range from $100-300, and may be received once during undergratuate experience and once during graduate school experience.

Deadline

Applicants can apply during fall and spring terms, provided the application is submitted at least one month prior to the conference date. No retroactive awards will be considered.

Eligibility

The applicant must fulfill each of the following requirements to be considered eligible:

  • The applicant must be a University of Minnesota - Twin Cities undergraduate or graduate student in good standing with his/her college.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.00 (extenuating circumstances regarding lower GPA will be considered in review of all aspects of the application).
  • Funds will be awarded to individual students, not organizations.
  • Students are eligible for one grant per undergratuate experience and one per graduate school experience.
  • Priority will be given to students attending national conferences, their first conference and/or presenting at a conference – conference presentation is a preferred requirement of graduate student applicants.

Requirements for Award Use

  • The award will be used to reimburse the recipient for transportation, conference registration, hotel, and meal expenses.
  • Students must submit printed information in their application about the conference, including proof of registration etc.
  • Graduate students will be encouraged to make a brief presentation about the conference in an informal campus setting.
  • Receipts must be submitted for reimbursement. Reimbursements can be requested as soon as a receipt is available, but no later than 30 days after the event for which the grant was received. A copy of the application form must be submitted with the receipts to ensure the appropriate account is charged.
  • All recipients of a travel award must submit a brief (one-page) written report to the respective director/coordinator. This report will include information about the conference, the student’s role at the conference, information learned at the conference, and how this information will be used in their work here at the University of Minnesota. The deadline for submitting this report is 30 days after the date of the conference.

Selection Process and Notification

Applications will be reviewed by the Student Programs Coordinator, who will notify the applicants of their application status via email.
