Mission:
Building on the legacy of the University’s former Commission
on Women, the Office for University Women (OUW) a unit of the Office of the Vice President and Vice Provost for Equity and Diversity, is charged with improving
and enhancing the campus climate for women faculty, staff, and students.
Working with central administration, University colleges, administrative
departments, the Faculty Senate, employee governance groups, and
existing women’s programs, OUW seeks to achieve the following
goals:
- To serve as a catalyst for University community building, institutional change, and advancement for women.
- To help create a respectful, inclusive, and productive campus work and learning environ-ment for University employees and students.
- To serve as an advocate regarding workplace and learning issues of women faculty, staff, and students including: recruitment, advancement, mentoring, and retention; professional develop-ment and recognition; curricular restructuring; positive campus values and attitudes, and administrative accountability for creating and maintaining a respectful climate for women.
- To recognize and celebrate the contributions and accomplishments of University women faculty, staff, and students.
- To facilitate and present academic enrichment programs, leadership development, and service learning opportunities for women students.
