In the upper-right corner, there should be a series of arched bars that represent a wireless connection. This is the "AirPort Status" icon.
You click on this icon to change AirPort networks, turn the AirPort card On or Off, and change your "network preferences."
If you do not see this icon, it could be an indication that the AirPort card is not properly installed.
You can first try is to running the "Internet Connect" application. It can be found by double clicking on your "Macintosh HD" and then clicking on the "Applications" folder. If you choose "AirPort" from the Configuration pop-up menu, then this icon will display. If that is not an option, then it is likely that the AirPort card is not installed properly.
If this application indicates that the AirPort power is turned off, you need only click "Turn AirPort On" to activate the card. The network should be set to "UofM " or "UofM Secure."
Note: The U of M is currently in the process of upgrading its wireless network. If you do not see "UofM" and "UofM Secure," it is possible that the building that you are in has not been cut over to the new wireless network. Log in to the "UofM Wireless" network, if it is available.
All existing Access Points are scheduled to be cut over to the new network by September 2008.
