Set Up Your Computer for WPA2 (Mac OS X)


Select a network

  1. Click the "AirPort Status" icon in the upper-right corner of your screen.

  2. Select "Open Network Preferences."

    The "Network Preferences" screen displays.

  3. Click the "Advanced" button.

  4. In the list of preferred networks, double-click "UofM Secure."

    Note: If "UofM Secure" displays in your list of preferred networks, skip to step #1 under "Enter network settings" below.

    If "UofM Secure" does not display under your list of preferred networks, proceed to the next step.

  5.  Click the "+" button.

  6.  In the "Network Name" field, type "UofM Secure."
     

     

  7.  Use the "Security" drop-down menu to select "WPA2 Enterprise."
     

     

  8.  Enter your U of M Internet ID and Password in the "Username" and "Password" fields.
     

     

  9.  Click the "Add" button.

Enter network settings

  1. Click the "Security" drop-down menu, and select "WPA2 Enterprise."

  2. Enter your U of M Internet ID (X500) and password, and check the box next to "Remember this network."

  3. Click "Add."

  4. Click "OK."

  5. Click "Apply," and then close the "Network Preferences" screen.

  6. You should now be ready to log in to wireless.

    However, depending upon how your computer is set up, you may be asked whether or not you want to store your password.

    Click "Always allow."

  7.  If you see a message informing you that the certificate is not trusted, click "Show Certificate."

  8. Look to see that the name of the certificate is "wireless.netaccess.umn.edu" and that the certificate is valid.

    Note: This certificate will expire annually. Once per year, you will be required to accept the certificate again. 

  9.  If both of these conditions are met, click the "Always trust" box, and click continue.

     You are now ready to log in to wireless.
