Securing Your Data

Since information going through the air over wireless connections can be intercepted and read by others, wireless networking on the "UofM" network should be limited to casual Web browsing. There are currently two ways to encrypt your data:

• Use WPA2 encryption by logging on to the "UofM Secure" wireless network.

• If your computer is WPA2 compatible, this is the method that OIT recommends for securing your data. Follow the instructions in the setup guides to determine if your computer is WPA2 compatible.

• If you are signed on to the WPA2-encrypted "UofM Secure" network, it is not necessary to use VPN.
