Verify that your AirPort is turned on

  1. Look for the AirPort Status icon in your computer's menu bar.  If your AirPort card is turned off, the icon looks like a white fan shape:


  2. Click the icon, and select "Turn AirPort On."

  3. The icon changes to a series of arched bars.

    Note: If you do not see this icon, your AirPort might not be properly installed.

Select your wireless network

  1. Click the AirPort icon.

    All wireless networks that are within your range display.

  2. Select either "UofM" or "UofM Secure."

    Note: You must set up your computer for WPA2 encryption prior to logging in to "UofM Secure."

    The U of M is currently in the process of upgrading its wireless network. If you do not see "UofM" and "UofM Secure," it is possible that the building that you are in has not been cut over to the new wireless network. Log in to the "UofM" Wireless network, if it is available.

    All existing Access Points are scheduled to be cut over to the new network by September 2008.


    Note: To log in to "UofM Secure," you will first need to set up your computer for WPA2 encryption.

Log in to the Network

  1. Launch a web browser. If you are logging into "UofM," the login page displays.

  2. Log in with your Internet ID (X500) and password.
