Return to: U of M Home
Because the existing wireless services were deployed by several different pilot groups across campus over a long period of time, the current wireless network consists of a number of different types of wireless equipment. Therefore, wireless capabilities can be very different from one building to the next with the current implementation.
Because the U of M was one of the first universities in the nation to deploy a wireless network, our 802.11b hardware is becoming outdated and is showing its age. Bandwidth of older Access Points is limited to 11 Mbps (while newer Access Points allow almost five times that data rate).
