Campus Implementation

Wireless networking developed at the U of M as a grassroots effort. OIT provided a limited amount of access points across campus wherever they could, but if University departments wanted to provide wireless signals in additional locations, it was up to them to do it. The result was a mishmash of different wireless equipment and technologies that was very difficult for OIT to manage and support.

Over the course of the summer, OIT will be replacing all of the existing equipment on campus to create a seamless wireless network that is made up of cutting-edge technology. During this transition period, some buildings on campus will be on the new network, and some will still use the older technology.
