Video Streaming

Sychronous (live) and Asynchronous (on demand) video streaming or web casting is a distribution service provided by VNS.

A campus credit or non-credit event held in either a VNS electronic classroom or a remote location with fiber or internet access are capable of live stream distribution.

Streaming feeds are available in both Quicktime and RealVideo formats. These video streams can either be embedded within a web page or be a standalone window on the user's computer. The servers have dedicated 100 Mbps links direct to the campus internet backbone for maximum performance.

There are numerous program factors the client needs to consider, such as:

  • how many concurrent viewers
  • how fast a network connection your viewers will have
  • whether or not you want to provide streams in more than one resolution to accommodate both users with slow and fast network connection
  • do you want the program to be streamed for viewing live, on-demand or both
  • how long will you need the program stored for on-demand use

VNS personnel can work with the client to determine the system configurations that best meet the needs of the intended audience.
