[These minutes reflect

of the comments, conclusions, or actions reported in these minutes represent the

of Regents.]
PRESENT:
Ryan Kennedy (chair), Kia Adams, Jeffrey Anderson, Joao Boavida, Jason
Einertson, Missy Gettel, Manjari Govada, Andrew Heairet, Kathy Julik-Heine,
Jonathan Lundberg, Alicia Smith, Greg Summers.
1.
ELECTION OF THE 2009-10 STUDENT SENATE/SSCC VICE CHAIR
Andrew Heairet was elected as
the 2009-10 Student Senate/SSCC Vice Chair.
2.
CHAIRS REPORT AND UPDATES
Ryan Kennedy said that this was
a good year as the Student Senate was able to accomplish many of its
goals.
3.
CAMPUS, STUDENTS ASSOCIATION, AND OTHER GOVERNANCE GROUP UPDATES
Greg Summers reported that
Crookston’s finals are next week. The remaining CSA positions will be
elected in the fall.
Jonathan Lundberg said that
UMDSA’s new congress had their first meeting on Monday which included more
elections.
Kathy Julik-Heine noted that the
control of the Morris technology fee will be taken from MCSA. A compromise has
been agreed to, but a final decision will not be made until next year. A
smoking ban is being considered, so a questionnaire and survey of students,
especially those in residential halls, was completed. 25 percent of students
responded, which will help to form a campus recommendation. The SSCC position
was appointed Monday. At Tuesday’s campus assembly meeting, the 2013-14
Morris calendar was approved, in the same format as what was voted against at
the April 2 Senate meeting.
Jeffrey Anderson stated that
three GAPSA representatives recently returned from a Washington D.C. lobbying
trip. They were part of a group of 25 students who were trained by a
professional lobbyist and then met with 70 representatives on the subject of
funding and indebtedness. It was a successful trip.
Andrew Heairet said that MSA
held its year-end banquet Friday and then Forum met Tuesday to elect the SSCC
representatives. A resolution was also approved in opposition to the Minnesota
Daily awarding bonuses to some of their employees.
Joao Boavida noted that he and
Mikael Moseley presented their summary at Tuesday’s Finance and Planning
Committee (SCFP) meeting. There was a good reaction from members, but
skepticism remains as to whether any changes can be made. SCFP students members
will pursue these initiatives separately, seeing what is already in place in the
colleges, and finding faculty allies in each college.
He then said that the Student
Committee on Committees should work on staying in touch with the student
committee members and providing reports to the Student Senate.
4.
ELECTION OF 2009-10 STUDENT SENATE NOMINATING COMMITTEE MEMBERS
Kia Adams and Andrew Smith were
elected as the 2009-10 Nominating Committee members.
5.
ELECTION OF TWO 2009-10 TC UNDERGRAD SSCC MEMBERS TO SCC
Andrew Heairet and Andrew Smith
were elected as the 2009-10 TC undergrad SSCC members to SCC.
6.
OTHER BUSINESS
With no further business, Ryan
Kennedy thanked all members for their service this year and adjourned the
