APRIL 19, 2007

[These minutes reflect discussion and debate at a committee of the University of Minnesota Senate; none of the comments, conclusions, or actions reported in these minutes represent the views of, nor are they binding on, the Senate the Administration, or the Board of Regents.]

PRESENT: Daniel Moore (chair), Stacy Deery, Kristen Denzer, Jeni Kiewatt, Bree Richards.

ABSENT: Sarah Mattison, Trent Senenfelder.

1. CAMPUS UPDATES

Duluth – Elections have been completed and the spring retreat is scheduled for next week.

Morris – Elections have been completed. Miracle Obeta is one senator for next year; a second will be chosen soon. The Chancellor's inauguration is tomorrow, as well as the undergraduate research symposium.

GAPSA – On-line presidential elections have been a problem this year as almost 4000 students were not included in the pool eligible to vote. A decision has been made to extend voting until next Monday to allow these students to vote, but election results need to be certified by GAPSA's Wednesday meeting of which time the other executive board positions will be elected. Six members recently went to Washington D.C. to meet with Minnesota legislators. The Department of Education has also announced that changes to the ethnicity section on applications will not be approved this June, which will create problems for institutions that have a deadline to implement the new system.

2. APPROVAL OF THE MAY 3 STUDENT SENATE AGENDA

Members suggested adding reports on the Student Development Outcomes, central corridor lightrail plans, and tuition reforms. The agenda was approved as amended.

3. OTHER BUSINESS

With no further business, Daniel Moore thanked all members for attending and adjourned the meeting.

4. STIPEND REVIEW

The Stipend Review Committee met and recommended to the Student Senate that the three recipients receive the remaining balances of their stipends.
