2006-07 STUDENT SEATS
Handouts were distributed detailing the number
of Student Senate seats for next year, one with the current college composition
and another detailing the changes if UMD Medicine and Pharmacy no longer have
separate representation.
Members made the following comments:
- Students need to be represented in some way
- Student Senate needs to make sure that UMD communication is in place with
Twin Cities units
- There is a difference between collegiate representation and program
representation
- Colleges need to be responsible for keeping communication open
- Suggestion could be made to colleges to alternate seats each year between
Duluth and Twin Cities
It was decided that this issue would be
discussed at the February 9 Student Senate agenda.
5. APPROVAL OF
FEBRUARY 9 STUDENT SENATE AGENDA
The agenda was approved as
amended.
6. DISCUSSION OF INTERNAL AGENDA ITEMS
Members
discussed voter turnout at the student governance elections, which is about 10
percent for both Duluth and MSA. Would voting on Saturday or rallies help
because so many students are busy during the week? Will Kusch said that he
would investigate this issue.
Rick Orr said that he would be writing
language on liaisons positions for CAPA and Civil Service to the Student Senate.
He is also working on a structure to increase communication between committees
and the Student Senate.
Members were reminded to each choose an item and
continue working on it.
7. OTHER BUSINESS
It was noted that
the stipend review process would start at the next meeting. With no further
business, Josh Breyfogle thanked all members for attending and adjourned the
