Special Note from the P&A Chair, Ann Hagen

Dear P&A colleagues,

I hope you have had a chance to read the 12/28/12 Wall Street Journal article criticizing the U for its administrative expenses.  The cries of "too many administrators" are being echoed in St. Paul and the U now has to report back to the Minnesota Legislature on March 15 with an accounting of all administrative expenses.  The P&A job classification is extremely diverse and we are not just administrators.  P&As teach, research, coach, advise, support, and yes, administer and direct.  I believe our work is critical to the University's success and the P&A Senate is working to find a way to make sure everyone at the U and in the State know we are working hard to advance the U's mission.  The University's Government and Community Relations team will join us at our next meeting on Friday, February 1 to help us determine the best ways to move forward with this effort.  Please feel free to join us at the meeting or contact me directly with questions, concerns, or ideas!

Ann Hagen, Chair, P&A Senate

2013 P&A Outstanding Unit Award

Annually, the P&A Senate presents the P&A Outstanding Unit Award (OUA), which recognizes a unit of the University of Minnesota judged to be exemplary in their support of P&A staff and the critical role P&A employees fulfill in carrying out the mission of the University.  A unit includes colleges, departments, divisions, institutes, outreach centers, schools, and other administrative units within the University.

Units will be judged on recognizing work achieved during the past three calendar years: practices supporting and enhancing the careers of P&A employees; practices used for P&A involvement in decision-making and P&A contributions to profession & community.  The recipient of the OUA is based on the stated nomination guidelines.

Nominations must be received by Jodi Carlson Grebinoski, PD&R Chair, no later than 4:30 pm on March 8, 2013.  Questions - please contact Jodi Carlson Grebinoski at 218-726-7880, jlcarlso@d.umn.edu.
