[In these minutes:  discussion with Charlie Weaver, Minnesota Business Partnership]

Professor Marshak convened the meeting at noon and welcomed Mr. Charlie Weaver, Executive Director of the Minnesota Business Partnership, to the meeting.  The Committee held a 90-minute off-the-record discussion with Mr. Weaver.  Among the topics discussed were these:

--          The priorities and principles of the Minnesota Business Partnership (which has not had higher education as one of its priorities)

--          The view of the Partnership toward the University and the higher education system in the state

--          The options and alternatives the University faces in an era of declining public support for public higher education

--          The view of the legislature toward the University and the Governor's views of the University

--          How the University can bolster its support, both among the members of the Partnership as well as at the legislature

--          The potential usefulness of additional conversations the Committee might have with other leaders in the state.

Professor Marshak thanked Mr. Weaver for joining the Committee for a productive conversation, and adjourned the meeting at 1:30.
