How To Connect 10.2 - 10.3.9 Macintosh Clients --Legacy application; see local Tech Support. This process expires December 2009.
- Create an alias to Kerberos.app
- Modify edu.mit.Kerberos
- Get a new ticket with Kerberos.app
- Connect to server
- Disconnect the volume
- Destroy Kerberos ticket
Create an alias to Kerberos.app
- Navigate to /System/Library/CoreServices/ on your system and locate Kerberos.app.
- Click and drag Kerberos.app to the Dock.
Modify edu.mit.Kerberos
Change the contents of /Library/Preferences/edu.mit.Kerberos to:
[libdefaults]
default_realm = UMN.EDU
dns_fallback = yes
ticket_lifetime = 600
[realms]
UMN.EDU = {
admin_server = krb-w.tc.umn.edu.
kdc = krb-w.tc.umn.edu.:88
kdc = krb-a.tc.umn.edu.:88
}

Get a new ticket with Kerberos.app
Open Kerberos.app and select Get Tickets... from the Tickets menu or click New on the application's main window. You will be prompted to Authenticate To Kerberos with the following:- Name = your InternetID
- Realm = UMN.EDU
- Password = Your internet password
If you've properly authenticated, you will see a ticket labeled internetID@UMN.EDU in the Tickets section of the Kerberos.app window.

Connect to a Server/Share by using the Connect to server... command that the Finder provides.- Select Go -> Connect to server....
- In the Server Address field, type in the Server/Share you wish to connect to as well as the protocol that should be used. For example, to connect your home space, you would connect to: InternetID.ad.umn.edu and the share InternetID you would type the following:
smb://InternetID.ad.umn.edu/InternetID$.- At this point, you can click the plus (+) to add this Server/Share to the
Connect to server...favorites list.
- At this point, you can click the plus (+) to add this Server/Share to the
- Click Connect and the volume will be mounted on your system.
Disconnect the volume
- Click one on the volume in any Finder window to select it.
- Click the eject button adjacent to the volume name or select File -> Eject....
Destroy Kerberos ticket
- Bring Kerberos.app to the front--or relaunch the application.
- Select the internetID@UMN.EDU ticket by clicking it once in the Tickets section of the Kerberos.app application window.
- Click Destroy to purge the ticket and close your Kerberos session.
