November 11-13, 2009 U of MN custom SCCM Training
About the course:
A three-day course will be taught in the style of past UMNAD training on the Twin Cities campus in an OIT computer training facility. OIT will partner with New Horizons of MN to offer the customized training classes specifically for Information Technology Professionals of academic units, departments, and colleges at the University of Minnesota. The course is based on New Horizon's 5-day 6451 course: Planning, Deploying and Managing Microsoft Systems Center Configuration Manager 2007 and taught by a certified New Horizons instructor. A University Active Directory team member will also be available to answer specific deployment questions as they relate to the current UMNAD implementation. Enrollment is 10 individuals per session.
The cost will be $1,358 per individual paid by the participating academic unit.
More Details:
Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 provides the information needed to make metrics-based decisions in a dynamic IT environment. Its powerful features allow for: client inventory for hardware and software, meter application usage, run rich reports, deploy operating systems, and update clients from one central console. Integrated with Microsoft Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) and Windows Server Active Directory, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 increases your access into and management over your IT environment.
End Users
UTTC has developed a brief orientation to introduce users of Active Directory to some of the most common functions used on a day to day basis. This includes an introduction as to what Active Directory is, how to sign in to a computer, how to use file shares, and how to recover files that have been accidentally delete or overwritten without the assistance of technical support staff.
Information Technology Professionals
OIT & AC has partnered with New Horizons of MN to offer two courses of customized training classes specifically for Information Technology Professionals of groups, departments, and colleges at the University of Minnesota that will be joining the Central Active Directory Forest. The courses are based on two Microsoft courses: 70-290-Managing and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Environment & 70-294-Planning, Implementing, and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Active Directory Infrastructure. Courses are taught by a certified New Horizons instructor and also have a University Active Directory team member available to answer specific deployment questions. Unless noted, these classes are held on the Twin Cities campus in AC computer training facilities.
All students will be required to complete the New Horizons Career Booster skills assessment at the time of registration.
OU Administrators
A two-day course is geared towards the future AD Unit administrator and will introduce the concepts needed to administer AD in the Central Active Directory environment. Students should be experienced desktop or server administrators with knowledge of NTFS permissions and local users/groups. Due to the accelerated nature of this training, foundational concepts such as these will not be a focus of this course (see following course). Before attending this course, students must have completed Microsoft Course 2278: Planning and Maintaining a Windows Server 2003 Network Infrastructure, or have the equivalent knowledge and skills. The cost of this customized course is $623 and includes two reference books.
Prep Course- New OU Administrator/IT Decision Makers
The 1-day Windows Server 2003 Active Directory course is designed to prepare students who are not as familiar with Windows Server 2003 or Active Directory. This 1-day course will introduce students to various key areas and topics so that they will have been exposed to the foundational topics prior to the more rigorous two-day course. After completing this 1-day prep course, students should not expect to ‘fully’ understand everything taught in it as it is meant to ‘introduce’ and familiarize them with the topics, the tools and concepts covered in the 2-day course; deeper coverage will be obtained in the 2-day course. Coverage of this course will not be focused on how the U of M AD is configured and setup, but rather from a neutral point-of-view. The cost of this customized course is $311.50.
If you have any questions regarding these offerings, you can send email to umnad@umn.edu.
