Conversion Tools

The conversion tools have been taken offline. Their behavior for future events and DST changes has not yet been verified.

If you have a need for a conversion tool for Meeting Maker, GroupWise, or Outlook calendars, please write to umcal@umn.edu.

Conversion Guides

  • Windows GroupWise to UMCal
  • Windows Meeting Maker to UMCal
  • Mac OS X Meeting Maker to UMCal
  • Microsoft Entourage (v.X, 2001)
    • Entourage will NOT export any calendar data. If you want to migrate your data to UMCal from Entourage, you will need to use an intermediary program. There are a number of freeware and shareware applications that you can download if you desire. Search on Version Tracker (http://www.versiontrackker.com) using the keywords "Export Entourage". Apple's iCal program has a built-in tool (OSX version 10.2 and 10.3) that will import your Entourage calendar data into that program. (In iCal: go to File-->Import, and then select Entourage Data) You can then use the Export function (in iCal) to extract the data so you can import it into UMCal. See the iCal section below for information on adjusting iCal data prior to import.
  • iCal
    • Apple iCal data can be exported into iCalendar (.ics) format for import into UMCal. This data must be adjusted prior to import into UMCal, and not all data will transfer (recurring day events, entries that recur forver, reminders). Use the File--> Export command in iCal to extract your data. Next, do a find/replace all on the ICS file, to add the following to lines after each occurence of "BEGIN:VEVENT":     X-ORACLE-CLASS:NORMAL
          CLASS:PRIVATE

(in Microsoft Word, this is accomplished by replacing "BEGIN:VEVENT" with "BEGIN:VEVENT^pX-ORACLE-CLASS:NORMAL^pCLASS:PRIVATE").
  • Other Calendars
    • UMCal will accept most iCalendat (.ics) data (there are currently exceptions for some recurring events and associated reminders). Before importing your data into UMCal, follow the steps described in the iCal section (above) to insert the additional lines that define the access level for events.

Note: It is highly suggested that you test the procedure using a small subset of your calendar data (it will make it easier to see what is happening and, if there are errors, it is far easier to delete only a handful of events).

Client Comparisons

This table describes some of the general features and differences between the various clients used to access UMCal. Users of the web client will note some loss of functionality from the desktop clients (the standalone clients for Macintosh, Windows, and Linux), though most features remain intact. Users of the Outlook Connector have some additional functionality over the desktop clients, the most noticeable additions being the ability to categorize tasks and the tight integration with Outlook's e-mail capabilities.
