UMCal Mac OS X Install Guide
1. Pre-Install Requirements

2. UMCal MacOS X Desktop Client Requirements
Mac OS X Requirements
The Mac OS X client requires at least version 10.1.4 of the Mac OS X operating system. You will also need approximately 30MB of free disk space to perform the installation.
3. Installing UMCal Mac OS X Desktop Client
Downloading the Client
To download the latest version of the software, go to: http://www.umn.edu/umcal/download
Installing the Client
- Locate the file you downloaded to your computer, which is likely on your desktop. Double-click on this file to begin extracting its content. Be patient as this may take several minutes.

- When the extraction has finished, locate and open the folder named umcal-osxclient-<version> Folder (on your desktop or in the same location as the file you downloaded earlier). Double-click on the installer file, OraCal 9.0.4.1-X.

- When the installer launches, you will need to authenticate if you see "You need an Administrator password to install the software." To do this, click on the lock in the installer screen.

- Enter your username and password for the computer you are on. Click OK when done. If you do not have administrator privileges, you will need to contact your departmental support staff.

- The installer will bring you to the installation configuration screen. This screen will then disappear for a short while and another will appear briefly as the installer is configured.


- Once the installer configuration has completed, you will be prompted to select the folder in which to install the software. The default location is the "Applications" folder on your hard drive (or the drive your system software is on, if you have more than one drive ). Leave this setting as is and click the Install button.

- The actual installation begins and the necessary files are copied. Wait through this screen.

- When the installation is complete you will be presented with the following dialog. Click Done.

- The installation process placed a file on your desktop with information about the installation. This file is named Oracle_Calendar_9.0.4_installLog.log. You can safely delete this file as well as the original installation file and folder.
4. Configuring UMCal Mac OS X Desktop Client
Creating a Profile
- Launch the client, named Oracle Calendar.app. This file can be found by opening the hard drive, then the Applications folder, then the Oracle Calendar folder. The client will start and you will be presented with the Sign-in screen. Click Other.

- At the Connection Manager screen click New.

- The Connection Editor screen will be displayed.
Enter the following information:

Server: umcal.umn.edu

Click on the Lookup button. The Connection Configuration screen will be displayed.

- Select the Configure at login from user name radio button. Click on Configure.

- Click the Ok button and the connection manager screen will be displayed.

- Click on UMCal within the window and then click the Make Default button. Click Ok and the Sign-In screen will be displayed.

- Enter your UofM Internet ID and password.
- Click on the Sign-In button.
5. Establishing An Offline Agenda

Note: Before beginning this process, connect to UMCal. Also, if you are installing this software on a desktop computer that is on the campus network, you may skip these steps. Off-line agendas are recommended for users with dial-up connections or with notebook computers. |
- Open Preferences from the Oracle Calendar menu. Once open, scroll down and select the Off-line pane on the left.

- Check the Create folder in none exists box.
- If the off-line location is not set to "Oracle Calendar User Data," click Browse. Select Desktop from the drop-down menu at the top. Click the Documents folder in the left list. Click New Folder.

- Enter UMCal Data - <user> for the for the name of the new folder (where <user> is your Internet ID) and click Create. If there is already a folder by this name, you will need to delete it first or choose another name for your new folder.

- Make sure the UMCal Data - <user> folder is highlighted. Click Choose.

- Switch to the Download tab. Select the Prompt before downloading option at the bottom. Click OK.
