Pocket PC Sync for Windows 10g Upgrade
1. UMCal Pocket PC Sync for Windows
Requirements
Microsoft Windows Requirements
- Supported Versions of Windows:
- ActiveSync 3.7.x or 3.8
|
Note:
Microsoft ActiveSync 4.x is not compatible with UMCal synchronization
software.

Note:
You must have administrator rights to install this software and the software should be
installed while logged into the computer account that will be used to synchronize the
device (grant that account administrator rights temporarily if needed).

Pocket PC Requirements
- Pocket PC 2002
- Windows Mobile 2003 (1st & 2nd editions)
- Officially certified devices include:
- Dell Axim X50
- HP iPAQ H1910
- HP iPAQ 3600
- HP iPAQ h5550 series
- HP iPAQ h6300 series
- UMN succesfully tested devices:
- Dell Axim X3
- Dell Axim X30

Note:
Windows Mobile 2005 devices are not certified and testing has been unsuccesful.

2. Upgrading
Important: Before beginning, please be sure that your Pocket PC device is connected to your computer and is powered. |
- Download 10g sync tool from the UMCal website at http://www.umn.edu/umcal/download.
- Double-click on the installer downloaded in the previous step.

- The setup files will be extracted. Please while this completes.

- At the Welcome to... screen, click the Next button.

- At the next screen select your preferred installation destination or click Next to accept the default location.

- At the Setup Type screen, leave the default of Complete selected and click Next. If you do not wish to install certain sychronization methods, choose custom.

- Click Next at the Ready to Install... sceen to begin the upgrade..

- As the installation finishes up a pop up notifying you that some file sstill need to be copied to your mobile device will appear. Click OK to continue.

- The installation finished screen will appear. Click Finish to exit setup and view settings.

3. Configuring the Sync Tool
- The "Synchronization Settings" screen will automatically appear after the upgrade is complete.
- Verify that the following settings are correct.
User Input: UMCal Settings |
USER: your internet id
PASSWORD: your password
CONNECT: To Server
SERVER: umcal.umn.edu
NODE: the node for your campus/group
100 - Crookston
200 - Duluth
300 - Morris
400 - Rochester

Twin Cities users should refer to http://www.umn.edu/umcal/nodes
to determine their node assignment.

- Some upgrades may result in the loss of changing of certain preferences. Review your preferences under the Calendar, Tasks, and Contacts categories.
- On the next device synchronization, you will see the following message. Click Yes.

- Check your handheld device and perform any steps you are asked too complete.
- For syncronization to complete you may need to disconnect and then reconnect your device. Repeat the previous two steps if required.
