The Gopher GOLD™ Program is moving online!

Beginning in late July 2008, new deposits of Gopher GOLD™ Value will be stored online. No longer will value be physically stored on your U Card or other campus card. Every student, staff and faculty member will have an electronic Gopher GOLD Account associated with their U Card or other campus card to store your deposits and process your payments online.

The U Card Office, in cooperation with existing Gopher GOLD Merchants, will transition to card readers that will access your new Gopher GOLD Account over the summer of 2008. We will keep you posted with updates at the U Card website.

The U Card Office wants you to be aware that current deposits you make using the offline Gopher GOLD Program to the card's bottom magnetic stripe will not be available for use after August 2008 and encourages you to spend the value you have on your U Card or other campus card at vending, beverage, copier and computer print lab locations before August 2008.

University community members unable to spend the existing value associated with the offline Gopher GOLD Program on the card's bottom magnetic stripe will have until May 31, 2009 to visit the U Card Office in Coffman Memorial Union during regular business hours so our employees can verify your card value, delete it from the bottom magnetic stripe, and transfer it to your new, online Gopher GOLD Account. Due to accounting and auditing issues, satellite offices at Rec Sports and St. Paul Gym will not be able to transfer value.

The U Card Office is tremendously excited to be able to offer a greater level of service with convenience and safety to members of the University community when making deposits and purchases around campus.

Gopher GOLD™ Offline Program Information:

Gopher GOLD allows you to store up to $50 cash value on the U Card's bottom magnetic stripe. Once value has been added, Gopher GOLD purchases can be made on campus anywhere you see the Gopher GOLD logo. Gopher GOLD is available to all U Card holders and does not require U Card checking (Gopher GOLD is separate from the U Card checking account).

• You will save money *5 cents per copy* at most copy machines on campus!
  

How do you add cash value to your U Card Gopher GOLD stripe?

• Write a check for up to $50 at the U Card Office.
• Add up to $50 cash at a campus Cash-to-Card machine.
  • hold your U Card FACE UP and insert it PHOTO FIRST into the card reader
  • insert the EXACT amount of cash you would like to put on your card face up into the bill acceptor (Cash-to-Card machines do not give change!)
  • watch the red display on the card reader to verify your new balance
  • wait for your card to eject automatically

Each time you use Gopher GOLD in a vending, beverage or copy machine, the card reader will:

1. read the available balance found on your card's Gopher GOLD stripe
2. deduct the amount of your purchase
3. write your remaining balance back onto your card's stripe
   

Gopher GOLD purchases can be made at:

• vending machines
• copiers
• computer labs, for laser printing costs

If you are a visitor on the University of Minnesota campus, or you don't have your U Card with you, you can purchase and add value to a Gopher GOLD visitor card from any CASH TO CARD machine. The cost of the card is $1.

Remember, value added to the U Card's Gopher GOLD stripe is not cash refundable, even if your U Card is lost or stolen. Gopher GOLD does not transfer between coordinate University of Minnesota campuses.
