Eligibility

Students

Criteria to obtain your U Card
Undergraduate, graduate and professional students must be admitted and/or registered for classes at the University of Minnesota. Orientation students, scroll down for more information about U Card Express Service.

Note: University entitlements are based on current status, not future status.

When you arrive to get your U Card, a government issued photo ID must be presented. Driver's License, State ID, Military ID, Tribal ID or passports are accepted.

There is a replacement fee for lost, damaged or stolen U Cards. This fee can be paid with cash, check, Gopher GOLD™ Value or by charging your University Student Account.


My Photo

Digital photos are taken as part of the card issuance process. A new photo will be taken for each U Card and each time a replacement U Card is issued for security purposes.

U Card photos must be an unobstructed, front view of the full face that is a representation of the true appearance of the card holder.

Photo must be taken in normal street attire without a hat or dark glasses.

No facial or hand gestures or foreign objects are to be included in the photo.



Orientation Students


Incoming Freshman Students
After you've paid your confirmation fee and registered for orientation, you can obtain your U Card by visiting the U Card Office on the second day of your orientation. You must present a valid government issued photo ID and have your picture taken to receive your U Card.

Incoming Transfer Students
After you've paid your confirmation fee and registered for orientation, you can obtain your U Card by visiting the U Card Office on your orientation day. You must present a valid government issued photo ID and have your picture taken to receive your U Card.

Incoming International Students

Post Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) Students
You will visit the U Card Office on your orientation day, present a valid government issued photo ID, have your picture taken and receive your U Card.
