Your U Card is used for many things on the UMD campus. It is not just your photo ID! You'll use it to access campus services, purchase goods on campus, enter secured buildings and even access your checking account!
Access to Services
The U Card acts as a key to electronically identify a cardholder's role within the University community, thus verifying eligibility for campus services. Here is a listing of campus departments that use the U Card for access to their services:
- The U Card is used by University libraries to determine eligibility for access to their materials. All Twin Cities campus library locations that extend borrowing privileges require the U Card.
- The U Card is used to access residence hall dining rooms. However, the U Card Office does NOT handle your meal plan! Call 218-726-8178 or 218-726-8768 for questions regarding residence hall meal plan access.
- The U Card is used by UMD Food Services for Dining Dollars. You can add Dining Dollars to your U Card and enjoy the convenience in the 2nd floor Kirby Plaza Food Court (The Burger Hub, Center Court Grill, Daily Special, Grab and Go, Sweet Dreams & Wraps, Taste of Italia) and the Northern Shores Coffee Shop or, the Residential Dining Center (3rd Floor of Kirby Student Center). Dining Dollars may be added in the U Card & Dining Dollar’s Office, located in Kirby Plaza, Room 127, next to TCF Bank. If you have questions, please stop by The U Card Office, contact us at (218) 726-8814, or visit UMD's Food Services website.
- The U Card is used by UMD Stores to verify student eligibility to charge products and services available in the UMD stores to your student account.
If you are a student enrolled for the current term and you have an active U Card and no financial holds on your student account, you may present your U Card (along with another form of photo ID) to be swiped at the cash register to charge UMD Stores products and services to your student account. Total charges for each day are transferred each evening to your student account and the charge from UMD Stores will reflect on your next monthly bill along with tuition and fees. Remember, your charges will reflect on your student account and will be billed to you, so only charge what you know you can pay for! Unpaid charges may result in a registration or transcript hold on your student account. Returns require a receipt and will follow regular UMD Stores return policies. Return items will show as a credit on your student account
• Campus Cash
The U Card's Campus Cash program makes it easier and faster to make small purchases on campus. Use it instead of carrying cash and save money by being better able to budget what you spend.
• Secured Building Access
U Cards act as key cards for access to several secured buildings on campus. Card access is much safer than key access because an individual's building access can be deactivated immediately and without disruption to others in the building.
• U Card Checking Account
The U Card, in partnership with TCF Bank, has negotiated an exceptional free-checking account package offered exclusively to members of the University of Minnesota community! The U Card checking account can save you both time and money. Click here to find out more about the U Card checking account.
• U Card Calling Card Account
The U Card calling card account offers you 10¢ per minute domestic calling, anytime, 24/7! There are no surcharges or monthly fees. To find out more, click here! |
