The University of Minnesota is home to a highly successful Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. There are 12 women’s and 11 men’s varsity sports competing in the storied Big Ten Conference as well as the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA).
Sporting venues on campus include venerable Williams Arena (the “Barn”), the world-class University Aquatic Center, Mariucci and Ridder Arenas, and TCF Bank Stadium—the Big Ten’s newest multi-purpose football stadium.
You don’t have to be a Division I athlete to stay healthy—and to compete—on campus. The Department of Recreational Sports (DRS) enriches the student experience and facilitates healthy lifestyles across the U community. Facilities on campus include the University Recreation Center, University Aquatic Center, Cooke Hall, University Fieldhouse, St. Paul Gymnasium, and a host of outdoor facilities.
Whether it’s fitness classes, intramural sports, or activities offered through the Center for Outdoor Adventure, students can take advantage of a range of recreational sports opportunities available at the U.
