Transforming the U public comment period

December 5, 2005

We are approaching another milestone on our journey to transform the University of Minnesota into a top three public research university within a decade.  On December 12, the first 11 of the 34 task forces charged with developing the steps to move us toward this goal will submit their preliminary recommendations. You will then have the opportunity to review these recommendations on the Transforming the U Web site between December 16 and January 27 and submit your comments directly to task forces for their consideration.

The 11 task forces submitting preliminary recommendations on December 12 are as follows:

  • College Design: CNR/COAFES/CHE
  • College Design: CALA/CHE
  • College Design: CHE/CEHD
  • College Design: GC/CEHD
  • Graduate Reform: Student Support
  • Undergraduate Reform: Student Support
  • Undergraduate Reform: Honors
  • Undergraduate Reform: Writing
  • Diversity
  • International University
  • PreK-12 Strategy

A systemwide email will be sent during the week of December 12 that will provide more specific information about accessing the preliminary recommendations.  The public comment period will begin on December 16 and will remain open until January 27, 2006, to accommodate the intervening semester break.

Following the close of the public comment period, the task forces will adjust their recommendations as appropriate and on February 3 will provide final recommendations to their respective team leaders, Provost Tom Sullivan and Senior Vice President Robert Jones.  The task force recommendations will then be forwarded to the executive team for review and determination of next steps toward Transforming the U.

You are urged to take advantage of this opportunity to review the thoughtful work being done by your colleagues serving on the task forces and to provide additional input during the public comment period.  Watch for further updates on this important effort.
