E-NEWS PRIVACY POLICY
This policy outlines how the University collects and uses information about recipients of E-News, a bi-weekly e-mail newsletter for alumni and friends of the University. This policy is consistent with University Board of Regents approved online privacy, data protection, and Web publishing policies.

E-News Mission
U of M E-News is a biweekly e-mail newsletter for alumni and friends of the University of Minnesota. The newsletter, a free information source prepared by University Relations, helps alumni and friends stay connected to the University of Minnesota campuses in Minneapolis, St. Paul, Crookston, Morris and Duluth.

Tracking Information
To better understand the interest and behavior of our readers, the University of Minnesota tracks:
  • number of E-News e-mails opened
  • number of E-News e-mails deleted before being opened
  • number of readers who choose to visit E-News Web site
  • general reader statistics including how many clicks each item in E-News receives
  • reader interest trends over time
  • recipients who do not open E-News for an extended period. Periodically, these people will be asked to reaffirm their subscription in order to maintain a subscriber base of interested readers.

The University does not otherwise track individually identifiable habits, but rather general trends and use. This information is stored only as a log file for review to improve the value of E-News for its readers.

E-News Web Site
The E-News Web site (www.enews.umn.edu) includes past and current issues of E-News, and a place for people to subscribe or unsubscribe to E-News. As part of the subscription process, we require people to provide their name and e-mail address. We also seek optional information including home address, relationship to the University, and college/campus information for alumni.

Contacting E-News
Questions about this privacy statement or the practices of E-News can be directed to: enews@umn.edu, or call University Relations at 612-624-6868.
