Back to campus: Kickoff September 12, 2009!
On September 12, 2009, a new era will begin for University of Minnesota Golden Gopher football when kickoff in TCF Bank Stadium™ will return football to the Twin Cities campus.
For the first time in 28 years, the sounds, sights, and excitement of Big Ten football will resound across campus, new game-day traditions will be born, and a sense of pride will be felt among Gopher fans everywhere.
TCF Bank Stadium, now under construction, will provide benefits that extend far beyond football. The new stadium will be the symbolic center of campus life—a place for students to gather with family, faculty, alumni, and friends, enhancing campus life and building a common heritage and sense of community.
The University is a valuable asset to the state, and TCF Bank Stadium—a stadium for all Minnesotans—will bring pride to our citizens for generations to come.
A veteran of two stadiums

Hilding Mortenson had the honor of placing the first brick on April 7 for the new TCF Bank Stadium, scheduled to open in September 2009. Mortenson, 100, worked on the old Memorial Stadium as a high school sophomore in 1924. His nephew, Mort Mortenson, is the chairman of Mortenson Construction, general contractor for the new stadium.
