The Big Ten
Founded in 1896, the Big Ten Conference is an association of 11
universities that share a common mission of teaching, research
and public service. Intercollegiate athletics are an important
part of that mission.
The Big Ten universities ensure that academics are the first priority
for student-athletes, provide more than $63 million in athletic
scholarship aid to 7,500 student-athletes, and sponsor more than
250 athletic programs. The Big Ten sponsors 25 championships—12
for men and 13 for women.
Bringing Gopher football back to campus will rekindle something
that has been missing in Minnesota for more than two decades—the
Big Ten campus football tradition.
