DATES & TIMES — Sessions begin with an opening plenary Thursday morning, June 18 and end at dinnertime Saturday, June 20 with a closing plenary. (But also consider time for other local attractions?)

Travel by AIR

  • The airport is MSP — Minneapolis/St. Paul.
  • MSP is a hub for Northwest Airlines / Delta / Continental / KLM.
    Other major international airlines include: United, American (British Air/JAL/Quantas), AirCanada and Icelandair. US carriers include: USAirways, Southwest, Frontier.
    US-only budget airlines include [note different air terminal!] Midwest Airlines, Sun Country & AirTran — they do not always show up on travel website searches.

  • To the University from the Airport [3 options]:
    1. Taxi [$32-44 / ~1/2 hour]
      Follow the underground passageway with signs to Ground Transportation, and take escalator up to "Taxis." Your destination is University of Minnesota, main campus, East Bank, Centennial Hall (or specify your hotel).
    2. Shuttle [$16 / 30-45 mins.]
      Shuttle busFollow the underground passageway with signs to Ground Transportation, and take escalator up to "Shuttles." Your destination is University of Minnesota, Main campus, East Bank, Centennial Hall (or specify your hotel). Reservations (recommended) at SuperShuttle website or call or 1-800-BLUEVAN. You may also pre-arrange your pick-up for return departure. (There is no regularly scheduled shuttle service.)
    3. Economy [~$2 / ~35-45 mins., incl. transfer]
      Light RailFollow the underground passageway with signs to Ground Transportation, and take the tram to the light rail station. Secure fare card before boarding ($1.75 regular/ $2.25 rush-hour). Head downtown, thumbing your nose at traffic, to the 'Metrodome' stop (~20 mins.). Take a moment to appreciate our 300-ton marshmallow -in-bondage? Find bus #16 (heading east on 4th St. towards "St Paul") — use same farecard. Enjoy the magnificent view of the Mississippi River as you cross the bridge. Then get off just after 2nd stoplight (Union/Harvard St.). If needed, stop at Espresso Expose on the corner for coffee or light snack. Use local map to walk 1 block south to Centennial Hall.

Travel by CAR

Just off I-94. Exit at Huron Blvd. (UofMinn, East Bank). Your destination for map-searches is University of Minnesota, Centennial Hall (614 Delaware St., SE, Minneapolis MN) (or selected hotel). Parking is available for dorm guests at $12/day (Oak St. ramp—see map; you may pay via online registration).


Travel by TRAIN

Amtrak does have a passenger train station here on the main line from Chicago to Seatlle/Portland . A taxi or the #16 bus (a short walk away) will get you to the University. Refer to campus map. Contact Douglas Allchin for more info.
