by Silvana Barbacci, Annalisa Bugini, Paolo Brenni & Anna Giatti
This case study highlights the early practical applications of the discoveries of electrodynamics and electromagnetism: the telegraph. It begins with the invention of the battery, continues through the experiments of Oersted and Ampere on the interactions between magnets and electrical currents and concludes with the social role of the telegraph in long-distance communications. The module combines narration and experimental activities for students.
