Netscape version 4.7x for Windows
- While in Netscape messenger, in the menu bar, point to Edit and then click Preferences...
- In the left-hand category list, expand Mail & Newsgroups, and click Mail Servers.
- On the right-hand side, look at the line Outgoing mail (SMTP) server:. verfiy that it is set to smtp.umn.edu:587
- Under Use Secure Socket Layer(SSL) or TLS for Outgoing messages:, select Always.

- Under Incoming Mail Servers, click the mail server named YourUserName.email.umn.edu and click Edit.... This will open the Mail Server Properties box.

- In the Mail Server Properties box, if you have an IMAP tab, click here for more instructions.
- If you have a POP tab, you will not be able to configure SSL for your incoming mail server. You will need to switch from POP to IMAP or upgrade
to a newer version of Netscape.
- Warning: The following step changes your mail server from POP to IMAP. Making this change will affect settings and functionality of
your e-mail personality. Before proceeding, click here for an overview of IMAP. If
you do not feel comfortable with changing the functionality of your email personality, please contact 1-HELP at (612) 301-4357 for assistance.
To make the change: Next to Server Type:, you can click the dropdown menu and select IMAP Server. Once you have done this, refer back to
step 6.
