Mail 1.3.9 for Mac OS X (included with Mac OS X version
10.3.5)
- Open Mail 1.3.
- If you are setting up Mail to access e-mail for the
first
time, Mail 1.3 will open the Welcome
to Mail utility; if your U of MN e-mail account has previously
been set up in Mail, Welcome to Mail
will not appear and you can
skip to IMAP (preferred at the U of MN) or POP
instructions.
Otherwise, input the following values:
- In the Full Name
field, type your full name.
- In the Email Address
field, input your U of MN e-mail address, which follows the template of
<your
U of MN Internet ID>@umn.edu.
- Incoming Mail Server
should read <your U of MN Internet ID>.email.umn.edu.
- Choose between the IMAP
(preferred at the U of MN) or POP
protocols for Account Type.
- Input your U of MN Internet ID in the User Name field.
- Input your U of MN Internet password in the Password field. When Mail is
completely set up, you will be prompted for your password each time you
send or receive mail, and it will be authenticated against the password
you input here.
- Outgoing Mail Server
should be smtp.umn.edu.
- Click OK to continue.
- Mail 1.3 may then provide the option to Import Mailboxes from other e-mail
programs. Depending on your preference, choose Yes or No. If you choose Yes, Mail 1.3 will walk you through
the steps of importing your mailboxes. After importing, or if you
choose No, you can skip to the
following links to adjust your IMAP
(preferred at the U of MN) or POP settings.
Authenticated IMAP Instructions
