Konstantin Eduardovich Tsiolkovsky

(b. 9.5.1857 - d. 9.19.1935)

Working alone and without the support of local research institutions, Tsiolkovsky developed a series of sophisticated wind tunnels in the 1890s and conducted experiments on the aerodynamic merits of various aircraft designs. Near the end of his life he started to receive support from the state and made contributions to the study of the stratosphere and continued to work on the theoretical problems of space flight.
