In the late 19th and early 20th centuries a small group of inventors, engineers, and visionaries started to design and in some cases build experimental rockets. These tentative experiments demonstrated the feasibility of rocket powered flight, but the construction of a space vehicle required the skill and expertise of well organized engineering teams. The following sequence of images and text will acquaint you with an international community of individuals who established many of the basic principles of rocket design.
