Reduced Fares

University students, staff, and faculty members are eligible for discounted bus passes. Four different options are available, depending on individual needs.

U-Pass and Metropass
U-Pass and Metropass are deeply-discounted, unlimited-ride bus passes available to University students, staff, and faculty. To get a U-Pass or Metropass, you must be a currently enrolled student or a University employee, and you must have a U Card. You qualify for U-Pass if:

  • you are a currently enrolled student in any credit-bearing course
  • you are a staff or faculty member who works less than 20 hours a week AND has registered for a credit-bearing class
You qualify for Metropass if:
  • you are a staff or faculty member who works more than 20 hours a week without taking any classes.
  • you are a staff or faculty member who works 30 hours a week or more, regardless of registration for any University classes.
Please note: if you decide to cancel Metropass for any reason, you must wait 60 days before signing up again.

SuperSaver Discounted Bus Passes
A smart option for less frequent bus riders is to purchase a SuperSaver pass. SuperSavers are available in two formats. One option is a 31-day pass that gives you unlimited access to all Twin Cities buses for 31 days. The second option is to purchase a stored value pass that gives you access to all Twin Cities buses until the value on the card has been depleted. The value on the card is actually higher than the price you pay.

You can buy a discounted SuperSaver pass at one of the following campus outlets:

  • Coffman Memorial Union
  • West Bank Skyway Store
  • St. Paul Student Center
  • Parking and Transportation Services (excluding 31-day passes)
Metro Mobility Discounted Bus Passes
The last option is Metro Mobility discounted fare tickets. Metro Mobility is a door-through-door service that is available by reservation for people with disabilities who cannot use Metro Transit's regular bus service. For information on these tickets, contact Parking and Transportation Services.
