Welcome to the University of Minnesota.

To make it easier for you to locate transportation programs that address your specific needs, we have gathered them together in one place.

Find more disability information at University of Minnesota Disability Services 230 McNamara Alumni Center, 612-624-4037.

Disability Parking
Signed disability parking spaces can be found in all public/visitor parking facilities at the posted rate. You may park free at campus meters and signed on-street locations for a maximum of three hours. After three hours, meter patrons much either relocate their vehicle or pay the posted meter rate.

A state-issued disability permit or license plate is required to use these spaces. To apply for a disability permit, call the State of Minnesota at 651-296-6911 or University Disability Services at 612-624-4037.

Paratransit Service
University Paratransit is a specialized curb-to-curb, on-campus transportation service provided free of charge to persons with either temporary or permanent physical disabilities. The service operates year round, Monday – Friday, 7:30 am - 6:00 pm (except during official University holidays). Call 612-282-6619 to schedule a ride. An advance reservation of 2 days is preferred and rides may be scheduled up to 2 weeks in advance.

Riding the Bus
All campus shuttle buses and Metro Transit buses serving campus are lift-equipped. If you need extra help boarding a bus (even if you are not in a wheelchair), feel free to ask the driver to use the lift. Prior to boarding, position yourself on a sidewalk space that is clear of snow and other barriers so that the lift can operate freely. Metro Transit provides city bus schedules online, or call 800-NEW-RIDER.

Metro Mobility
Door-to-door service is available by reservation for certified riders unable to use the regular fixed-route bus due to a disability or health condition. Complete details including eligibility, cost and an application form can be found on the Metropolitan Council website or by calling 651-602-1111 (TTY 651-221-9886).

Deeply discounted Metro Mobility fare tickets are available to University students, faculty and staff at the PTS main office. Regular tickets may be purchased online.
