Driver Training
As a method to increase driver safety, minimize preventable accidents and check escalating insurance costs, the University introduced a Driver Training Program in 2001. In 2006, the program was reviewed and strengthened into the Employee Driver Program. The key components of the program include:
- Register and monitor University drivers by department utilizing assigned liaisons.
- Safety verification by way of license checks and accident report/review.
- Driver training.
|
The program has been an unqualified success. The accident rate for University vehicles has plummeted, resulting in safer drivers and a notable cost savings for the University due to lower insurance premiums. Since 2006, more than 2,000 University employees campus have attended training.
The department of a driver in compliance with the driver training
requirements will be subject to a $500 deductible in the case of an
accident. If the driver is out of compliance with the program, the
department will be subject to a $2500 deductible in the case of an accident.
