The University of Minnesota - Twin Cities campus is one of the
largest urban campuses in the country and often has multiple events
going on simultaneously.
With construction of a new on-campus stadium, traffic has been
congested in the area surrounding Mariucci and Williams Arenas,
including access to the Huron Boulevard Parking Complex. For the
rest of the school year, at periods of time, some roads will close
or may become one-way only. For a smooth trip to and from campus,
we highly recommend that you allow extra travel time and plan ahead
for your visit.
To identify especially busy traffic periods, check the event
calendar for a listing of other campus events. Event rates ($7
or $9, except at Oak Street Ramp) go into effect two - three hours
before the event.
East Bank is within blocks of two major highway arteries - 35W
(north/south) and I-94 (east/west). Try the following options to
minimize your commute time:
From 35 W, Heading North - park in the Washington Avenue
Ramp:
Bypass downtown Minneapolis exits and continue on 35W while watching
for the U of M/3rd Street exit sign. The right lanes split from
35W and head towards campus. Follow the far right lane for the East
Bank exit and merge onto Washington Avenue. Cross the bridge over
the Mississippi River to East Bank. Continue on Washington Avenue
to Harvard Street and take a left. Follow the one-way street around
the Washington Avenue Ramp to the public entrance on Union Street
(west side of ramp).
From 35W, Heading South - park in the 4th Street Ramp:
Exit at University Avenue/4th Street. Turn left at the second set
of lights onto University Avenue SE and head east. Turn left on
17th Avenue and proceed 1½ blocks to the 4th Street Ramp
entrance on your left. Another option is to bypass the ramp and
take a right on 5th Street SE to park in Lot 37.
From I-94, Heading East and West - park in the Oak Street
Ramp ($5 event parking):
Exit at Huron Boulevard. At the first stoplight, take a left on
Fulton Street SE. Proceed 2 blocks and go right at Ontario Street
(one-way). Continue 1½ blocks to the Oak Street Ramp entrance
on your left.
From Highway 280 - park in the Huron Boulevard Parking Complex.
Exit on University Avenue. Head west towards campus. Take a right
on 25th Avenue, go one block and turn left on 4th Street SE. Then
take a right on 23rd Avenue and follow it to the lot entrances (on
both sides).
