| Where can I park my bike? |
At over 6500 rack/hoops located around campus. Bikes chained to anything else may be impounded. Or rent a bike locker.

| What if the racks are all full by my building? |
Call PTS (612-626-7275) with the time of day and location. We’ll add more racks in that area if the situation persists.

| What is a bike locker? |
A fully enclosed storage space equipped with an integrated locking system. Lockers are 36” x 72” and fit most standard bikes.

| How much and where are the lockers? |
The cost is $84 per year ($7 a month) with a $25 refundable key deposit. Lockers are available on East Bank, West Bank and St. Paul. Request a Rental

How should I lock my bike? |
U-shape locks are highly recommended. Use them in addition to a standard cable lock for maximum protection against theft

| How can I prevent my bike from being stolen? |
- Rent a bike locker.
- Lock your bike with a U-lock and a standard cable lock. Thieves seldom carry the tools necessary to break both types of locks.
- Bring an inexpensive bike to campus.
- Register your bike with UMPD on the Valuables Registry.

| What is Helmets & Headlights? |
It’s a program where we offer a helmet and headlight set to the U community for the low cost of $20. Purchase an item or set at the Pharmacy in Boynton Health Service by presenting your U-Card. Call 612-624-7655 to verify the items are in stock.

| Can I bring my bike on the bus? |
Not inside, but all full-size campus shuttles and Metro Transit buses have easy-to-operate racks in front. Light rail has bike holders inside every car.

| Will my bike fit on the bus/light rail bike rack? |
Sure, racks are designed to accommodate any bike style or size. Bus racks can hold 2 bikes at a time; rail cars can hold 4. Loading and unloading is a snap.

| Are there any places on campus that I can't ride? |
Yes, riding on sidewalks within business districts is NOT allowed, unless it is posted otherwise. See the biker map for additional specific areas.

| Where can I buy an inexpensive bike? |
At the University ReUse Center. It receives and resells impounded bicycles from campus on a biannual basis (usually March and October).

| What is Bicycle Advocates? |

| What kind of rights do I have as a biker? |
Cyclists have all the rights, and duties, of every vehicle driver. You must obey all traffic signs and signals, and you must ride on the right side of the road.

| What are the campus regulations for mopeds? |
Here are the State regulations that UMPD follows and will enforce.
- Riders must wear eye protection at all times.
- Operators must have a valid driver’s license, a valid motorized bicycle operator’s permit, or a valid motorized bicycle instruction permit.
- Moped riders may not carry passengers.
- Mopeds are prohibited from sidewalks, except when necessary for direct access to a roadway from a driveway, alley or building. In those instances, they must be walked, not driven.
- Mopeds cannot operate in designated bicycle lanes. Mopeds are not allowed on the Washington Avenue Bridge pedestrian level, unless walked across.
- Mopeds must be legally registered and have liability insurance in order to operate on a public street or highway.
- Mopeds can not ride in any area that is restricted to emergency vehicles and buses only.

Mopeds/motorized bicycles are defined in Minnesota State Statute 169.01, Subd. 4a and usage is addressed in Minnesota State Statute 169.223.
In regards to parking your vehicle, PTS follows these guidelines:
- Mopeds/motor scooters with engines of 50 cc or less may park at a bike rack.
- Motor Scooters with an engine above 50 cc are required to be licensed and must adhere to all of the rules for motorcycles.
