Moving forward after the vote

Email to Twin Cities and Duluth graduate assistants
March 29, 2012

Dear Graduate Assistant,

In the wake of the recent unionization vote, I want to acknowledge you for a robust and civil debate, and a fair and transparent exercise in democracy.

As a former graduate student myself—right here on the Twin Cities campus—I also want to reiterate my deep interest in understanding and addressing the concerns some of you have about your roles and your work conditions.

Now that this process has ended, I am able to work with your deans, other senior leaders, and our Office of Human Resources to determine how best to address your concerns.

I value your important contributions to the University, and I am committed to moving our relationship forward in a positive and collaborative way.

Thank you for all that you do for our University.

Sincerely,
Eric W. Kaler
President
