The Living Room

To showcase the impressive and changing exhibit of 20th C. paintings from the permanent collection of the University’s Frederick Weisman Museum, the color chosen to paint the walls is a hybrid blend of brown, grey, and purple, inspired by one of the effective backdrop colors used during the Weisman Museum's 1997 Marsden Hartley exhibition. The paintings currently displayed at Eastcliff are predominantly by Alfred Maurer and B. J. O. Nordfeldt, artists whose works (along with those of Marsden Hartley) are held in greater numbers at the Frederick Weisman Museum than in any other museum in the world.
The living room, used for countless receptions was recently finished. The generously scaled, upholstered sofas are complemented with period Art Deco and reproduction Deco-style furnishings.
The Friends of Eastcliff purchased the four exceptional Art Nouveau wall sconces from the early 20th century. These stunning two-arm gold-leaf fixtures, with beautiful patina and original switches and glass-beaded shades are special decorative arts treasures. The Friends of Eastcliff also generously contributed a restored 1920s Steinway baby grand piano for the living room.
