Meetings and Events at Eastcliff
In addition to housing the president and his family, Eastcliff serves as special gathering place for official University functions. Its gracious structure, dramatic river bluff views and manicured grounds extend a warm welcome to friends of the university - students, faculty, alumni, staff, donors, community leaders as well as dignitaries from around the world. In fact, each year Eastcliff receives about 7,500 visitors. Office of the President staff ensures the on-going management of the property as well as planning and coordinating more than 150 events each year. Eastcliff plays a unique and vital role in the ongoing success of the University. As an example, President Bruininks and his wife, Dr. Susan Hagstrum, as well as leaders from departments across campus host events that include:
- Discussions with local and state policymakers
- Recruitment of exceptional, prospective students
- Academic discussions and retreats
- Assemblies to honor alumni and benefactors
- Commencement receptions for graduates and their families
- Frequent garden and home tours
All University of Minnesota departments are eligible to host Meetings and Events. Eastcliff does not charge a use fee, but there are a few guidelines for using Eastcliff for events.
To schedule an event, please use
the Eastcliff Event Request Form. You
can specify the date and time you would like to request as well
as the size of your group, plans for meals and beverages, and the
tentative program for the event.
The Eastcliff Management Office can send invitations on official Eastcliff stationery for a cost of $1.00 plus postage. You must provide names and addresses in an excel spreadsheet as well as text for the invitation at least one month prior to the event. If you decide to produce your own invitations for an event - the Eastcliff Management Office must approve your text before your invitations are sent out.
Because Eastcliff is a unique event space, we ask that you choose a caterer from our list of Frequently used caterers (PDF 47 KB).
If you would like to choose a caterer not on the list, we must meet with you and the caterer a week before the event to discuss logistics.

What are invitation costs?
Invitation costs are $1 each, plus postage. Please contact the Eastcliff Management Office for a sample invitation. First name, last name, address, city, state, and zip must be provided (via email) in separate fields in an excel spreadsheet at least five weeks prior to your event in order for the Management Office to mail your invitations on time.
