Susan A. Hagstrum, Ph. D.
Susan Hagstrum is the wife of Robert H. Bruininks, the fifteenth president of the University of Minnesota. In her role as his spouse, she enjoys the opportunity to be one of the University's ambassadors and chief volunteers. She often hosts University groups and guests at Eastcliff, the historic home of the University president. She serves a major fundraising role with friends, alumni, and staff of the University.
Susan serves on University museum boards, including the Weisman Art Museum, the Bell Museum of Natural History, and the Tweed Museum on the Duluth campus. She also serves on several other University boards: the University of Minnesota Pediatrics Foundation, the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum Board, and the boards of advisors for the College of Education and Human Development and the College of Design. In the community, Susan is a board member of the Minnesota Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Tyrone Guthrie Theater.
She holds a B.S. in speech pathology from Northwestern University. Her M. A. in speech pathology and Ph. D. in education policy and administration were awarded by the University of Minnesota. She enjoyed a 27-year career in preK-12 public education in Minnesota before establishing her own small business to provide leadership to non-profit organizations as they work to improve results.
Susan has placed her business on hold as she enjoys the opportunity to devote full-time attention to serving as the University community.
