Vice President and Chief of Staff Kathryn F. Brown
Kathryn F. Brown has served as vice president and chief of staff at the University of Minnesota since 2002. In this role, she serves as a chief advisor to the president and plays an integral role in establishing and implementing policy at the University; provides administrative oversight and leadership to University of Minnesota Twin Cities Intercollegiate Athletics Department; acts as a primary liaison to the Board of Regents, senior campus and system administrators, and faculty leadership; and ensures that presidential directives and initiatives are carried out.
Kathryn Brown has served as associate vice provost of Student Affairs (2002) and interim associate vice president (2001-02) and assistant vice president (1999-2001) in the Office of Multicultural and Academic Affairs, including Disability Services. She also served as associate general counsel at the University of Minnesota (1992-99), representing the University in labor, employment, and student matters. Prior to coming to the University of Minnesota, Ms. Brown had been in private practice with the law firm of Squire, Sanders & Dempsey in Columbus, Ohio, representing both private and public sector clients on various employment and education matters. She earned her B.S. in education from the Ohio State University, her M.Ed. from Miami University, and her J.D. from the University of Toledo College of Law.
