Date: April 15 - 16, 2004
Location: Law School
This conference will explore the many dimensions of violence that seem bound up with the diverse forms of modernity that are emerging with globalization, and the complex articulations between these processes. Featured speakers will include Radhika Coomaraswamy (Director of the International Centre for Ethnic Studies in Colombo and Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women at the United Nations), Cynthia Enloe (Research Professor in the Depratment of International Development (IDCE) and Women's Studies at Clark University), Rashid Khalidi ( Edward Said Professor of Arab Studies and Director of the Middle East Institute at Colombia University), Mahmoud Mamdani (Herbert Lehman Professor of Government at the Department of Anthropology at Columbia University and Director of the Institute of African Studies at SIPA), and Vandana Shiva (Director of the Research Foundation for Science, Technology and Natural Resources).
