Symposium on Small Towns: Rural Communities Adapting to the New Century
Date: June 8 and 9, 2004 (Also June 2005)
The symposium series on small towns provides a venue for small town issues and concerns to be addressed in a manner that is both analytical and celebratory. There are 853 cities in Minnesota, of which 727 (85%) are small towns with under 5,000 people. Today these towns are facing tremendous challenges, including changing economies, population migration, and shrinking budgets. The series will deepen the understanding of how the past century of change has influenced the present conditions of small towns and provide the basis for a positive future.
