Step Up

Life is riddled with moments where something just doesn't feel right. You're partying with a friend who is about to make a bad choice, or you're with a group of people that's oblivious to an obviously dangerous situation. It's decision time. You can let it all happen, or you can step up.

The Step Up campaign is designed to increase awareness of these forks in the road—these moments where something feels off—so that you don't think twice about making the right decision.

Preventing High Risk Drinking

Whether it's a friend who has clearly had enough or a stranger you see passed out on the sidewalk, everyone has a responsibility to Step Up. Resources to keep your friends safe:

Has he had too much? (PDF download)—learn how to spot the signs of alcohol poisoning and what to do about it.

Gopher Chauffeur—don't risk walking home at night if you and your group are drinking. Free transportation service home for students 10:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. Call 612-388-6911.

Additional Resources:

Student Network for Abuse Prevention (SNAP) an organization of students educating peers about alcohol, tobacco, and other drug abuse.

All you can drink shouldn't mean literally all she can drink. Know when to cut her off. Step up. Drink, drank, drunk, dead. Don't let your friend drown in his own puke. Step up. The number of drinks your friends have drowned shouldn't look like a football score. Know when to call game. Step up. You know your friend way better than the bartender does. Don't be afraid to say she's had enough. Step up.
