Dear University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus student: This 2009 H1N1 flu message focuses on what you should do about class work and about notifying your instructor if you become ill. If you become ill with 2009 H1N1 flu symptoms: Notify your instructor by e-mail that you are ill with 2009 H1N1 flu and ask to find out how to make up missed classes, tests, and assignments. No doctor’s note is required for class attendance purposes from students who have symptoms associated with 2009 H1N1 flu. Do not come to class until your fever has abated without fever-reducing medication for 24 hours. While you are recovering, consider these strategies: Stay informed: Watch for e-mail updates, updates on the course Moodle or WebVista site, and other communications from the University and your instructor. Check the University’s 2009 H1N1 flu Web site for updated information. Stay on schedule with your coursework: You are still responsible for material presented during classes you miss, and you need to make arrangements with the instructor or other class members to find out what was covered. Even if you miss classes, you are responsible for meeting all course requirements, observing all deadlines, examination times, and other course procedures. Keep up through classmates: The University encourages students to take and share notes in their classes and laboratories. If your instructor agrees, ask a classmate to record classes or see if you can participate remotely, for example, by listening through a classmate’s cellphone speaker phone. E. Thomas Sullivan |
