Community Information

Creating a safe environment for the University community is a goal of the UMPD. As police interaction with the community becomes more positive, productive partnerships will be formed, leading to greater satisfaction with police services and increased job satisfaction among officers. Reduced levels of crime will allow more police resources to be allocated to services that have the greatest impact on the quality of community life.

MINNEAPOLIS POLICE ACTIVITIES LEAGUE (PAL)

Minneapolis Police Activities League (PAL) is a membership-based organization founded on the belief youth and police can develop positive, constructive relationships by establishing and maintaining a connection between officers and youth through a wide variety of regularly scheduled recreational, cultural and educational activities. Activities are free.

PAL is comprised a few full-time officers and numerous part- time and volunteer officers who work with inner city youth. There are opportunities for coaching athletic teams, as well as
chaperoning/mentoring youth at several "field trip" type things during the summer months. The photo below was taken at Dowling Park at the PAL Professional Day.

HOW should i ADDRESS CONCERNS ABOUT OFFICER PERFORMANCE?

UMPD strives for the highest professional standards and accountability. Citizens who have questions, concerns, or comments regarding the performance, actions or behavior of UMPD officers are advised to contact a sergeant or lieutenant at the department. Phone inquiries can be made 24 hours a day to 612-624-COPS (2677).

Anyone wishing to file an official complaint against an officer will need to go to the University Police Station and ask the lobby attendant to call a police supervisor in order to handle the complaint. Complaints must be initiated by a written, signed form and will be processed with due regard for state and federal laws as well as the Police Officer's Bill of Rights.
